“The Big Rumble” Earthquake Preparedness Fair: October 17th @ Joe Lee

The Big Rumble -Bayview Earthquake Preparedness Fair – Saturday, October 17, 2009 Joseph Lee Recreation Center

Dear Community Leader,The City of San Francisco and Committed 2 Community, a non-profit organization, and I are working together to host The Big Rumble, an earthquake preparedness fair.  The Big Rumble commemorates the 20^th Anniversary of the Loma Prieta Quake of 1989.

My name is Lashel Alexis and my partner Ronald Allen and I are the Captains for the Bayview Earthquake Preparedness Fair on October 17, 2009, at the Joseph Lee Recreation Center, 11am-5:04pm.

We are partners with SFFD, SFPD, The Red Cross, and The Salvation Army to start.  I am reaching out to local churches, community organizations, and leaders like you to help make this happen.

I’m requesting your assistance in a couple ways.

1) Please help make everyone in the Bayview area aware of this event and ask them to come out and get information on how to be prepared to take care of themselves, neighbors, family members and friends.  If you would like posters or flyers please let me know and I will send them to you right away.  If you have access to seniors, please make sure they are aware of the event and have a family member attend on their behalf.

2) We need your help with volunteers for setup, security, food and beverages, vendors, greeters, command center, entertainment, breakdown, clean up and resources. We also need young adults/teens to participate in mock triage exercises.

3) Lastly, for local merchants with a desire to have a booth, or sponsorship please contact me directly for more information.

There will be more information to come and you can expect a telephone call from me regarding how we can prepare the community for a major earthquake.

UPDATE: The first Bayview “Big Rumble” planning meeting will take place Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, at the Anna E. Waden Library (Bayview Branch) located at 5075 Third Street (at Revere Ave).
