
The “Food Guardian Project” is recruiting residents of Bayview-Hunters Point interested in working on community food security, urban agriculture, and nutrition education and awareness. This is a stipended, part-time opportunity. Applicants who are proficient in Spanish, Cantonese, or Samoan language are strongly encouraged to apply:
SEFA Food Guardian (Bayview Hunters Point)
- Open until filled
- Stipended Part Time Opportunity (2-5 hrs per week @ $15/hour)
- Term: Until November 2010 (with possibility of extension depending on funding)
- Reports to: Food Guardian Project Coordinator (FGPC)
Project Overview
The goal of Southeast Food Access (SEFA) Working Group is to ensure that healthy, fresh, sustainable, and affordable produce is accessible to all residents of the BVHP. SEFA’s works in three main areas: Nutrition Education and Awareness, Urban Agriculture, and Food Access.
Job Description
Food Guardians will help advocate, promote and create a sustainable food system, including access to healthy food for all residents in the BVHP.
Food Guardians will reflect the diversity of the BVHP community. We encourage applicants with a variety of language and cultural competency skills to apply. The Food Guardians will work as part of a team to represent the community of Bayview Hunters Point and work under the supervision of the Food Guardian Project Coordinator.

Required
- Resident of Bayview Hunters Point
- Ability to work with diverse communities in BVHP
- Ability to work professionally & respectfully with community residents, city officials and community based organization staff
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational and communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, or Samoan strongly preferred
- Experience with grassroots organizing
- Familiarity with food justice, public health, popular health education
- Familiarity with computer systems including Internet, Email, Microsoft office
