BMA Merchant Retreat Recap

On Monday, September 27th, the Bayview Merchants’ Association had its first-ever Bayview Merchant Retreat at the South Beach Harbor building next to the AT&T Ballpark.  The meeting was attended by around 30 merchants and other BMA stakeholders.  The day was packed with information intended to benefit the businesses represented by retreat attendees.  Here is the general schedule from the day:

Throughout the day,  there were several productive discussions, speeches, and networking opportunities for BMA members who attended the event.  From a merchant safety training for storefront merchants, to a contractor panel discussion with representatives from local development firms, to an end-of-day merchant visioning exercise that solicited members’ input on new projects and activities to be undertaken by the BMA, there was something at the retreat for everyone.  Here are some photos recapping some of the retreat’s sessions:

New Affordable Senior Housing at 5600 Third

The BMA has been hard at work recently preparing for the 2010 Bayview Merchant Retreat next Monday, September 27th,  but there have been a number of important pieces of information that have passed our desk that we are taking some time today to blog about.

The first is the opportunity to own one of 116 new, affordable apartments on Third Street in a beautiful new apartment complex built by non-profit developer, BRIDGE Housing Corporation.  Details from the promotional flier:

San Francisco Redevelopment Agency Certificate of Preference Holders from Hunter’s Point and Western Addition receive first priority on renting of these units. Certificate of Preference holders are primarily households displaced by Agency action in Redevelopment Project Areas during the 1960’s and 1970’s, but may also include other persons displaced by Agency action.  San Francisco Redevelopment Agency Certificate of Preference Hotline: 415-749-2432.

National Night Out Against Crime TOMORROW @ Mendell Plaza

Come on down to the Bayview’s Annual “National Night Out Against Crime” event TOMORROW NIGHT:

  • Bayview-Hunters Point, San Francisco, CA

Local comedian and activist, Donald Lacy, will serve as the night’s host.

Event highlights will include performances by The Reed Fromer Trio and Mazacote Salsa band, healthy food, FREE health screenings and fun activities for youth.

The SFPD Bayview Station will be on hand throughout the evening demonstrating some of their police and crime fighting services, including their police dog unit and mobile command center. In addition, police personnel including Chief George Gascon, Commander Kitt Crenshaw, Captain Greg Suhr and Sergeant Ava Garrick will welcome everyone and address the attendees on various home, personal and community safety techniques.

Local vendors and non-profits will also be present selling their food and wares and giving out information on their services to event attendees.

The annual BMAGIC Backpack Giveaway is coming up this August 14th, from 11:00am – 3:00pm at the Bayview Opera House (4705 Third Street at Newcomb Avenue).  In addition to a variety of fun activities for event attendees to enjoy, the Backpack Giveaway offers free backpacks and school supplies to neighborhood students heading into any grade between Kindergarten – 12th.   If you are a student or the parent of a student, don’t miss this opportunity! July 27th BMA Meeting Agenda Now Available

This coming Tuesday, the BMA’s July meeting will be held at Auntie April’s on Third and McKinnon. We will be talking about a whole bunch of issues including contracting opportunities for local contractors, affordable housing on Third Street, a Third Street beautification project, and a local merchant-run energy savings program, among others.  Please see the below flier for further details.  We look forward to seeing you all there!

Third Street Stakeholder’s Meeting THIS THURSDAY @ Southeast Community Center

This Thursday, July 22nd, at 10:00am in the Alex Pitcher Community Room at the Southeast Community Center (1800 Oakdale Avenue), the Third Street Stakeholder’s Committee will be convening for the first time under the new leadership of Third Street Corridor Manager James Moore to discuss all things Third Street.

The upcoming meeting will specifically address upcoming events including National Night Out Against Crime (on August 3rd) and next year’s Bayview Music Festival (sometime in May), as well as a Third Street marketing campaign that will include T-shirts and banners that will be installed along the corridor.

If you are interested in the vitality of the Bayview’s main commercial street, please join the Committee by showing up on Thursday morning!  It is a great opportunity to be involved in your community and to get your voice heard on issues affecting the neighborhood.
