This holiday season, the City of San Francisco is coordinating the third annual  “Shop SF – Get More” campaign. This is a city-wide promotion designed to encourage residents of San Francisco and the entire Bay Area to shop, dine, play and stay in San Francisco this winter.

Participation is FREE and open to all businesses located in San Francisco. These offers, plus holiday events and hotel promotions will be widely promoted in a joint effort between the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Mayor’s Office of Economic & Workforce Development, the Office of Small Business/Shop Local, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, BART and others.

Free Interior Make-Overs for Bayview Businesses: Applications Due Next Week

This information didn’t come to the desk of the Bayview Merchants’ Association until late last Friday, but is a HUGE opportunity for the Bayview-Hunters Point small business community:

Wells Fargo is awarding 3 Bayview businesses a $3,000 grant for a redesign of their interior space.  Not only does this opportunity come at no cost to the business, but it also includes free consultations with design professionals, free marketing workshops, and free design and printing of additional marketing materials.

If you are a Bayview business in need of an economic boost, please apply for this opportunity today! Applications are due at 5pm on Wednesday, August 25th.

How To Apply for an Installer Position at Lowe’s

Attention all Bayview-Hunters Point Contractors: This information was included in this past week’s BMA meeting minutes, but Lowe’s has come out with a short & easy-to-read Powerpoint presentation on how to apply to become a contracted installer through the new Lowe’s store going up on Bayshore Avenue.  The Powerpoint can be viewed HERE.  If folks reading this can think of anyone who might be interested in this contracting opportunity, please forward this post along to them!

SBC Special Meeting this Monday: Proposed Business Tax Revisions

This coming Monday, June 26th, a special meeting will be held at City Hall to discuss Supervisor David Chiu’s proposed revisions to the business tax structure in San Francisco known as the “Progressive Payroll Tax.”  This proposed ordinance will likely mean significant changes to the way San Francisco businesses are taxed through a change in the tax structure for those businesses who pay payroll taxes and those who rent commercial property.  The meeting will be held at the following time and location:
  • Special Meeting of the San Francisco Small Business Commission
  • June 28, 2010 at 2:00pm
  • San Francisco City Hall, Room 400
  • To discuss a proposed ballot initiative which, if passed, will change the business tax structure in the City and County of San Francisco.

Navy Promoting Opportunity for Local Bayview Contractors & Business Owners

Good News for Bayview Merchants from Congress’ Financial Reform Bill Negotiations

Via the Huffington Post, some positive news in the financial reform bill that could substantially benefit the Bayview community’s small businesses:

Wall Street reform negotiators struck a deal Monday to regulate the swipe fees that major banks and credit card companies can charge to merchants — costs that are passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices. The cost to merchants of using credit cards has more than doubled since 2003 even as merchants’ profits have declined, a contradiction only explained by the monopolistic system that lets banks continuously raise swipe fees.
