SBC Special Meeting this Monday: Proposed Business Tax Revisions

This coming Monday, June 26th, a special meeting will be held at City Hall to discuss Supervisor David Chiu’s proposed revisions to the business tax structure in San Francisco known as the “Progressive Payroll Tax.”  This proposed ordinance will likely mean significant changes to the way San Francisco businesses are taxed through a change in the tax structure for those businesses who pay payroll taxes and those who rent commercial property.  The meeting will be held at the following time and location:
  • Special Meeting of the San Francisco Small Business Commission
  • June 28, 2010 at 2:00pm
  • San Francisco City Hall, Room 400
  • To discuss a proposed ballot initiative which, if passed, will change the business tax structure in the City and County of San Francisco.

BMA Member in the News!

Our very own Brigette LeBlanc of LeBlanc & Associates was in last week’s Oakland Post in a piece celebrating Women’s History Month. LeBlanc is quoted for her thoughts on black women in politics and providing leadership for the next generation:

This opinion is also echoed by Brigette R. LeBlanc, president of the San Francisco chapter of Black Woman Organized for Political Action, which advocates for Black women in politics.
“Black women are doing a lot of great things politically,” said LeBlanc. “But we need to make sure we plan for the future for the next generation. We need to mentor our younger women, so they will be prepared when the baton of leadership has to be passed.”

Free Tax Payroll Workshop TONIGHT

There is a FREE tax payroll workshop tonight for any and all interested business owners.  It will basically explain a new, free service for businesses in which payroll can go into your business’s bank account, with each employee receiving a debit-type card they can use to take out their paycheck money.  This is a great way for employees who don’t have a bank account to access their money without going through check-cashing places and the like.  Please swing by and check it out if you have a chance!  Details are below:
